The Memphis Mafia is the nickname given to the group of men who were with Elvis Presley everyday from 1956 until the day he died on August 16, 1977.

There were eight original members; although at times, they numbered between four and thirteen. The core group of original guys (Sonny West, Red West, Billy Smith, Marty Lacker, and Lamar Fike) was considered to be the closest to Elvis and became his confidants throughout the years. Elvis coined the phrase for the Memphis Mafia called "Taking Care of Business".

Jerry Schilling

Jerry Schilling the youngest member of Elvis' Memphis Mafia -- a mixture of friendship, Elvis support system and Elvis bodyguard unit -- also has been a music manager, a film editor, TV and documentary producer and president of the Memphis and Shelby County Music Commission. "Me and a Guy Named Elvis", is his latest book.

Al Dvorin

Al Dvorin immortalized the expression, "Ladies and Gentlemen, Elvis Has Left the Building" and sadly he will never again repeat those famous words.

Colonel Tom Parker

Parker's involvement in the music industry began as a music promoter in the late 1940s, working with such country music stars as Minnie Pearl, Hank Snow, and Eddy Arnold, as well as film star Tom Mix. During this time he received the honorary title of "Colonel" in 1948 from Jimmie Davis, the governor of Louisiana, in return for work he did on Davis' election campaign.

On August 18, 1955, Parker became Presley's manager officially, by contract, and in November he convinced RCA Records to buy Presley out from Sun Records for $35,000, a sizable sum for that time. With his first RCA single, Heartbreak Hotel, Presley graduated from rumour to bona-fide recording star.

It is debatable whether Presley would have become the superstar he became without Parker, and it's likewise debatable to what extent Parker's management of the King of Rock and Roll was Svengali-like. Parker held the reins of Presley's singing and acting career for the rest of Presley's life and was said to be instrumental in virtually every business decision that Presley made—including his decision to cut back on recording and stop touring after returning from his stint in the United States Army in 1960 in favor of a film career (from 1960 to 1967-68) that was lucrative in terms of his bank account but, to many critics and fans, bankrupting in terms of Presley's music quality.

It took the energetic 1968 television special, Elvis, and a subsequent series of stellar recording sessions in Memphis, Tennessee, to restore Elvis Presley's musical reputation. Though it is open to debate as to whether he was allowed much choice in the matter, Parker allowed both to happen with little impediment.

Charlie Hodge

Charlie’s love of music led to a long career of singing with quartets, included Bill Gaither & Charlie’s own quartet, The Foggy River Boys. Charlie entered the Army with Elvis Presley and they became good friends.  He worked for Elvis and lived in Graceland for 17 years.  After Elvis’ death, Charlie continued to perform in shows dedicated to Elvis’ memory For the past 15 years Charlie performed at Memories Theatre 2141 Parkway, Pigeon Forge, TN 37863. He also traveled the world sharing Elvis stories speaking and performing. He is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Hodge & sister Margie Poteet.  Charlie Hodge, Elvis' army buddy and friend until his death in 1977.Charlie first met Elvis on the transport ship from the New York to Germany, September 1958. They stayed friends until Elvis' death in August 1977. Charlie was the guy who sang back up, played rythym guitar on stage with "The King, Elvis Aaron Presley".

Graceland Mansion

The mansion is constructed of tan limestone and consists of twenty-three rooms, including eight bedrooms and bathrooms. The entrance way contains several Corinthian columns and two large lions perched on both sides of the portico.

Elvis Presley's Graceland, 3764 Elvis Presley Boulevard (formerly known as South Bellevue Road/Boulevard), sits atop a hill in the suburb of Whitehaven, Memphis on U.S. Highway 51. It is around 8 miles south of downtown Memphis and the grounds stretch across 13.8 acres. Whitehaven was originally an unincorporated part of Memphis. It was later annexed by the city of Memphis.

Elvis purchased Graceland in early 1957 after vacating an East Memphis house located at 1034 Audubon Drive because of privacy and security concerns, and the opposition of neighbors to the enthusiastic behavior of the many fans who slowly cruised by his home. Elvis moved into Graceland together with his father Vernon Presley and his mother Gladys Presley. After his mother died in 1958 Vernon married Dee Stanley in 1960. Graceland was Elvis Presley’s home and refuge for twenty years and is one of the most visited homes in America today, now attracting over 775,000 visitors annually. It is also the most famous home in America after the White House. In 1991, Graceland Mansion was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2006, Graceland was designated a National Historic Landmark. Elvis recorded his last album "Moody Blue" in the Jungle Room and From "Elvis Presley Boulevard". The Elvis Trophy Room is full of Elvis Jumpsuits and memorabilia. Elvis Presley died at the estate on August 16, 1977, his parents Gladys and Vernon Presley, and grandmother, are buried there in what is called the Meditation Gardens...... His talent, good looks, sensuality, charisma, and good humor endeared him to millions and possibly billions, as did the humility and human kindness he demonstrated throughout his life...To this day we don't really know what Elvis had but he had it in abundance. Known the world over by his first name, he is regarded as one of the most important figures of twentieth century popular culture. Elvis passed away at his Memphis home, Graceland, on August 16, 1977... We Love you and miss you dearly Elvis...we will never forget you !
